Commenting on reports that Michael Gove has told the Danish fishing industry that boats from EU countries will still be able to operate in UK waters after Brexit, Angus MacNeil MP has expressed his concern at the naivety of Mr Gove.

Angus MacNeil MP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar and SNP Shadow spokesperson for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said:

“The naivety displayed by Michael Gove is quite staggering! The SNP have long been concerned that Scottish Fisherman’s rights would again be used as a bargaining chip in Brexit negotiations by the Tories.

“Michael Gove has given away these rights before the negotiations have even started.

“Scottish fisherman will have been as surprised as his Danish hosts were at the very different tone used in Scotland to one audience versus that in Copenhagen, not so much a bargaining chip as a road paving chip.”
