Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP, Angus Brendan MacNeil has today officially opened a new warehouse at BASF Pharma (Callanish) Ltd based in Breasclete on the Isle of Lewis.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) invested £2.8m in the expansion project at BASF Pharma (Callanish) Ltd in Breasclete, together with the company’s own financial support.
Commenting after the official opening, local MP Angus MacNeil said:
“I am delighted and honoured to have been asked to officially open the impressive warehouse facility at BASF Pharma (Callanish) Ltd.
“This facility will help cope with the demand for the omega 3 fatty acid products which are produced at the factory in Breasclete. It is heartening to see the continued growth of this company which, with a workforce of 73 people, is a valuable employer and the financial support from Highlands and Islands Enterprise is welcomed.
“BASF Pharma (Callanish) is a world leader in lipid chromatography with world leading breakthroughs actually made at the factory at Breasclete – something the workforce can be very proud of but we in the wider communities can be proud of too, as it shows when the islands are involved and try, they are as good as anywhere if not better.”
“I applaud the staff at BASF Pharma (Callanish) Ltd for the important work they do and I wish them every success for the future.”
