Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP Angus MacNeil has contacted the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) following complaints about the lengthy delays learner drivers are facing to take car and vocational theory tests.

This impacts on car tests, motorcycle tests and the vocational tests for a Category C & D license.   When there are delays for people waiting to take the vocational test this has an effect on people’s livelihoods and the DVSA needs to address this situation as a matter of urgency.

Mr MacNeil has been made aware that constituents who are trying to book a theory test are told they will have to wait over 14 weeks before they can take the test. 

 

Commenting Angus MacNeil said:

 

“Delays with the theory testing is causing real problems for people and I have contacted the DVSA to highlight this issue.

“I am aware that there are job opportunities in the construction and haulage industry but people are being held back from taking these jobs because of the delay at the DVSA.  This is unacceptable.

“I understand that some people are travelling to the mainland to get an earlier test, which means that they have to take a day off work, this is expensive and time consuming.

“In the past, those wishing to take the theory test could expect to do so within a month.  I fail to understand why there is such a lengthy delay when the theory test facilities are in place in Stornoway.

“I have been in contact with the DVSA and I am waiting for their response.”
