Isles SNP MP Angus MacNeil has received a response from Hotpoint regarding constituents in Na h-Eileanan an Iar who own tumble dryers affected by a safety alert.

A letter from Maurizio Pettorino, Managing Director of Whirlpool UK in response to Mr MacNeil’s correspondence, said that 869 cases in the islands had been resolved either through machine modification by the manufacturer or through a product exchange programme.

They stated that 11 customers were still waiting for a modification.

Mr MacNeil said: “I am still in contact with the manufacturer regarding individual cases which have been raised with me, however they have informed me that they are making efforts to provide resolutions to all customers.

“I would urge all constituents to check again if the machine they own is one of the models affected by this alert. If you haven’t registered your machine, you may be unaware of this alert. You can do this through the model checker on http://safety.indesit.eu/ or http://safety-swan.eu or Freephone 0800 1510905. The advice remains that if your machine is affected you should not use it.
