Vodafone have today (Tuesday) informed Angus MacNeil MP that the 3G signal in Tarbert, Isle of Harris has been restored.

Mr MacNeil wrote to the firm’s Chief Executive, Jeroen Hoencamp last week demanding urgent action to bring back the Rural Open Sure Signal which had been off for several months.

Mr MacNeil said: “I am very pleased that Mr Hoencamp has listened to my request for action to restore the 3G signal in Tarbert at last. I wrote to him last week urging immediate action to fix the fault after many months and was informed they were sending a team this week.

“It is unfortunate that it took quite so long to fix this problem but I am glad that Vodafone agreed to escalate the timescale they had originally proposed for sending a team to the island.”

He added: “The Rural Open Sure Signal is a valuable service providing phone signal and 3G services to the community and visitors. This is also working well in Castlebay, Isle of Barra.

“I continue to work with all mobile phone operators to take forward plans to introduce 4G services across Na h-Eileanan an Iar.”
