Na h-Eileanan an Iar MP Angus MacNeil and MSP Alasdair Allan have announced this year’s winner of their annual Parliamentary Office Christmas Card Design Competition.

Pupils were asked to provide an island themed entry and the 2015 competition winner depicted a colourful Stornoway harbour with festive decorations.

The winner was chosen from among 170 different entries from 10 participating primary schools. The eventual winner was Primary 7 Sarah Ann Murray from Sgoil Bhreascleit. Sarah Ann was presented with an array of Parliament-themed prizes on Monday morning.

The winning entry will be sent out to various people and organisations including  MPs, MSPs and Government ministers.

Congratulating Sarah Ann while visiting Sgoil Bhreascleit to present the prizes, Alasdair Allan MSP said:

“It was an incredibly hard task to choose just one winner from amongst so many high quality entries. I would have been happy to display any of the entries as my Christmas card and it was a great display of the artistic flair children in the isles possess.

“However, we eventually chose Sarah Ann’s entry as it was was bright, festive and contained all the qualities we were looking for. A big congratulations to her and I hope she enjoys her prizes.

“I would also like to thank the pupils for taking part and our sponsors AJ Martin Builders, Alex Murray Construction and the Rodel Hotel for making this year’s competition possible.”

Angus MacNeil MP said:

“We were delighted to receive so many entries from schools across Na h-Eileanan an Iar and we would like to thank the pupils and teachers for all their efforts. We would like to wish everyone a very happy and peaceful Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.”
