Last week, Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP, Angus MacNeil wrote to NHS Western Isles and to the Cabinet Secretary for Health regarding the out-of-hours healthcare service in Harris.

The community of North Harris are deeply concerned and at a public meeting held in Tarbert in January, they relayed these concerns to NHS Western Isles.

Angus MacNeil MP said:

“There is no doubt that patients who are registered with the North Harris Medical Practice are anxious about these changes, particularly given the topography of the islands.  When medical assistance is required, a journey from Harris to Lewis is obviously daunting and I have raised these concerns with NHS Western Isles and the Cabinet Secretary for Health.

“I welcome the fact that the Scottish Government has recently announced a review on out-of-hours care in Scotland and I hope this will lead to a rethink on the part of NHS Western Isles.”
