Commenting following the storm which hit the Western Isles last night, Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP, Angus MacNeil said:
“Our islands have been hit by the worst storms on record, with gusts of 113mph, causing a considerable amount of structural damage throughout our communities.
“We are all grateful to the emergency services for their tireless efforts throughout the night.
“It is also heartening to hear of instances of our island values coming to the fore, with neighbour looking out for neighbour.
“Whilst I know many people are still without electricity, Scottish and Southern Engineers continue to work hard to restore the power supplies. We are very grateful to our local engineers and those drafted into our islands who continue to work in extreme conditions.
