Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP, Angus MacNeil has written to Brendan Dick, Director, BT Scotland regarding faults with phone lines and broadband.
Since the lightning strike in December, which caused outages to phone lines and broadband, many islanders are still waiting for repairs to be carried out.
Angus MacNeil MP said:
“I have received numerous reports from people who are still waiting to have their phone lines and their broadband repaired.
“For the elderly, particularly those living alone, a phone is essential.
“Businesses are also experiencing difficulties when there are interruptions to the broadband service.
“I do appreciate that the lightning strike in December caused major difficulties for BT and I also appreciate that engineers have been working very hard to fix the problems.
“I have spoken to BT engineers working on this in the field, quite literally in a field, and I have been told by these experts of the difficulties in finding faults caused by lightning. I understand some help has been drafted into our area but it would seem more engineers are required to find and solve these faults and I have therefore, written to Brendan Dick, Director of BT Scotland to see if anything can be done to speed up the process.”
