Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP, Angus Brendan MacNeil has welcomed the announcement that the Post Office has decided to retain and invest in Stornoway Post Office.

Stornoway Post Office situated on Francis Street, was previously earmarked as one that could potentially be franchised and run in partnership with a suitable retail partner. Despite interest from several potential partners, the Post Office has not reached an agreement with a suitable partner to secure the long-term viability of the branch.

Commenting Angus MacNeil said:

“In 2012, Stornoway Post Office won the title ‘Best Performing Branch in the UK’, I am pleased to receive confirmation that the Post Office has decided to retain and invest in Stornoway Post Office as part of the organisation’s on-going modernisation programme.

“Stornoway Post Office will remain under Post Office management and I understand that the Post Office plan to invest in the branch to modernise it as part of their on-going transformation programme.”
