Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP, Angus MacNeil has welcomed the news that Carnan Post Office, situated in Lovats Ltd, Carnan, Isle of South Uist opened for business this afternoon (Monday 14th April).

Commenting Angus MacNeil MP said:

“Despite delays owing to technical issues, I welcome that Carnan Post Office is now open for business and is able to start providing the Post Office services to the local community.

“There was a lot of effort behind the scenes to keep a Post Office in the area, at one stage it looked like the nearest Post Office might have been in Balivanich but in fairness to Post office Ltd they were good at listening and understanding, and ultimately helping to ensure the Carnan and Creagorry area retained a  Post Office.  It may have taken a while but due process had to be followed, so now I wish the management of Carnan Post Office every success and I am sure customers will welcome the extended opening hours which are:

08:00 – 18:00            Monday – Saturday

14:00 – 16:00            Sunday

Finally, I would appeal to people to use the local Post Office because that is the way we keep dispersed services in our islands and I am sure the Post Office in Carnan will be first class.
