Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP, Angus MacNeil recently visited the Eilean Siar Foodbank in Stornoway, which was set up by The New Wine Church, working in partnership with the Trussell Trust.

During his visit, Mr MacNeil met with volunteers and found out more about the work they are doing to support people in need of help.

Angus MacNeil MP said:

“Food poverty is sadly a reality in Scotland and there are people who struggle to make ends meet.  Many referrals for food parcels come from other agencies and the Eilean Siar Foodbank does tremendous work in helping people who cannot afford to buy food.

“There is far too much inequality within our economy and there is no doubt that welfare and benefit changes imposed by the Westminster Government have increased the need for food banks.

“It was good to meet with volunteers at the Eilean Siar Foodbank and to hear more about the excellent service they provide.  I am thankful for the efforts but saddened at the need for such an endeavour.”
