Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP, Angus MacNeil is disappointed that the UK government fails to recognise that all islands are different when setting strike prices.
Mr MacNeil has received written confirmation from Edward Davey MP, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) that the proposal is to set a strike price at £115 per MWh for onshore wind developments on the Scottish Islands.
Angus MacNeil said:
“All islands are different and I am disappointed to see that the UK government continues to package the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland together while considering strike prices.
“Whilst the islands have many similarities, the costs associated with renewable energy are very different due to existing infrastructure and connection costs to the grid.
“Following an approach from Calum Iain Maciver, Director of Development at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, I have also contacted Edward Davey MP, to request that he meets with representatives of the Comhairle. With an announcement from the UK government due in December, I hope that Mr Davey will respond positively to this request.”
