Commenting on the Global Salmon Initiative (GSI) to be announced in Norway today, which brings together the 15 largest salmon producers, representing 70 per cent of the total world production, Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP Angus MacNeil said:

“Salmon farming is very important in our islands, employing many people particularly in rural communities, I understand that this initiative is being established by salmon producers to focus on making it sustainable for the future.

“Salmon is an excellent nutritious product and I welcome this initiative to develop the sustainability of the salmon farming industry.”
