Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MSP, Alasdair Allan, and MP, Angus MacNeil, have welcomed a decision finally to protect in law the definition of Stornoway black pudding, so that black pudding from elsewhere can’t be sold under this name.

Alasdair Allan MSP commented:

“It’s good to see this long campaign reach a conclusion.  The marag deserves to be protected from imitators, and hopefully this will help boost the sales of this fine product around the world in the future.

“Well done to local butchers and producers for taking this stand.”

Angus MacNeil MP said:

“Stornoway black pudding is worthy of being awarded protected status it is highly regarded throughout the country.

“It is very tasty, rich in iron, and I often enjoy eating Stornoway black pudding.

“I am delighted for the butchers in Stornoway that their product has now been protected.”
