Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP Angus MacNeil has today welcomed the announcement that the RNLI Lifeboat station at Leverburgh, Harris is to become permanent after a successful trial. The station was launched in May 2012 and since then has had a very busy time with call outs. This is the first permanent station in Scotland for twenty years.
Commenting Angus MacNeil MP said:
“This is great news and proves that such a service was required in South Harris. Many people have campaigned for years to have a lifeboat station and their dedication has now been rewarded.
“The dedication shown by the crew who are all volunteers has been first class, and many in the community of South Harris have been very active in fundraising for the new lifeboat.
“This is a huge honour to all those that have been involved with the Leverburgh Lifeboat Station since last May.”
