Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP Angus MacNeil is writing to Post Office Ltd to ensure that they continue a Post Office presence in the Creagorry/Iochdar area in South Uist.
Angus Macneil said:
“There are options within a mile from the existing Post Office at Creagorry. One site Post Office Ltd has looked at is too far away, so bizarrely they are proposing to leave people in the Creagorry and Iochdar area with a Post Office even further away, at 8.2 miles to the north at Benbecula, or 16 miles to the south at Ormiclate.
“Alternatives to the current Post Office at Creagorry would be around a mile and the local community need to be better served from Post Office Ltd, especially with the cost of fuel being what it is in the islands.
“I hope that Post Office Ltd will work with businesses in the area that have shown willing to have the Post office on their premises, and ensure that they continue a service for the people of Creagorry and Iochdar.”
