Commenting on the loss of Orange signal in Uig on the Isle of Lewis, which has been without coverage since Thursday 7th February, Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP, Angus B MacNeil said:

“Once again mobile operators are poorly treating customers in our islands and blaming our remote location for repairing the fault.

“Orange customers in Uig have been without signal since 7th February, they were initially promised that it would be restored on Monday 11th, today we are told that the fault is being dealt with by a more senior engineer.  This is not good enough.

“People depend on their mobiles for their work and some people who live alone are left feeling isolated, it is unacceptable that customers are left days sometimes weeks without a mobile signal.

“Orange customers feel badly let down by their provider and tell me that the support they receive from the customer services department is woeful.

“Perhaps Orange should follow the lead of Scottish and Southern Energy who maintain contact with customers during outages and show that they care for their customers, whilst often in poor weather, getting on with repairing the fault.”
