Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP, Angus B MacNeil has welcomed the announcement from The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) that they have launched new online resources to help internet businesses comply with the law and provide a better service to residents living in remote areas of the UK.

This follows on from the OFT’s recent report on remote communities which found that whilst the internet offers opportunities for people living in remote areas, delivery terms quite often deter people from gaining the maximum benefit from online shopping.

Mr MacNeil said:

“The OFT is urging online businesses to use these resources to ensure that consumers receive a good level of service that meets the requirements of the law.

“I am pleased that the OFT have taken these steps and are continuing to try to find a way of easing the delivery charge obstacle which is often faced by people living in remote areas.”

The new resources are available on the OFT’s Distance Selling hub which provides guidance for retailers and business support organisations on regulations that affect buying and selling goods and services via the internet, phone, mail order, email, interactive TV or text.
