Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP, Angus Brendan MacNeil has today written to Martin Dorchester, Managing Director of CalMac supporting the Barra Youth Council who are calling for Wi-Fi to be available on CalMac ferries.
Mr MacNeil said:
“With the ever increasing use of devices such as laptop computers, smartphones etc, more and more people require and expect to be able to access the internet.
“In December 2011, members of the Barra Youth Council met with CalMac to discuss the possibility of providing Wi-Fi on the ferries. Following this meeting I understand that an agreement was reached that CalMac would install Wi-Fi on the Oban to Castlebay route as a pilot, however the Barra Youth Council tell me that no further developments have been made and that they have written to CalMac asking for an update. I have written to Mr Dorchester in support of the Barra Youth Council.
“I hope that progress can be made and that we are soon able to get on with work and business and surf the net while sailing.
“The Barra Youth Council is to be congratulated for their efforts and persistence if pursing this matter.”
