Today, Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP Angus MacNeil has called on the Scottish Government to announce their intentions on bringing fibre connections to Na h-Eileanan an Iar following meetings with Scottish Ministers today. These fibre connections are key to increasing coverage and bringing next generation mobile broadband coverage to the islands.

Speaking this morning Angus MacNeil said,

‘With parts of the London Underground now having better mobile coverage than the Outer Hebrides, I believe it is high time that the Scottish Government announces their intentions for bringing fibre to our islands.

‘Improved fibre connection to the islands should be a priority of the utmost importance.

‘With improved fibre connections we can insure that we are not left behind when 4G coverage comes.

‘My meeting follows the 2012 Hebridean Communications Summit where members of the mobile phone industry and the community indicated the same concern regarding fibre on our islands.

‘It is my hope that we hear something soon from Scottish Ministers on this issue.
