Na H-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP Angus MacNeil has today welcomed the announcement from the Department of Transport that they have signed a contract with Bristow Helicopters Ltd to operate the Search and Rescue Services at Stornoway and Shetland. The new contract will run from the summer of 2013 until 2017.
Angus MacNeil said:
“ I was pleased to hear the Minister make the announcement today and this ends the uncertainty over the SAR contract for the next few years. The team at Stornoway provide an excellent service and have received many awards for their work since the Helicopter was first based at Stornoway Airport in 1987.
“I also hope that the current staff at Stornoway will be given first option of transferring over to the new operator from the Summer of 2013.”
